Subjects Covered

Mark Cronshaw: Photobiomodulation: A Clinical and Scientific Revolution in Oral Care.

The scientific basis of photobiomodulation (PBM) is undergoing a radical change as new concepts are re-writing the textbooks and will transform the patient clinical experience. As part of my current research I have a new theory to share concerning pathways of pain management with PBM. As part of an international effort to develop greater understanding of the mechanisms underlying pain control and PBM I will share with you an update. This will explain the many ways we are seeking to deliver a reliable and predictable clinical outcome.

Dr Steven Parker: Optimising clinical outcomes in oral laser soft tissue surgery.

A well developed understanding of laser tissue interaction permits the experienced user to minimise tissue trauma and deliver superb consistent clinical results. Dr Parker is a world authority on all aspects of oral lasers and is a very well published author with over 50 published scientific papers as well as being the co-editor of the current best-selling laser textbook “Lasers in Dentistry: Current Concepts” (Springer, 2017). Steven is the course coordinator for the internationally acclaimed Genoa University advanced masters degree and is a past president of the USA based Academy of Laser Dentistry.

Dr Ricardo Poli: Laser applications in restorative dentistry: cavity preparation, bonding and laser induced analgesia.

Achieving a good quality and durable restoration using a laser instead of a drill has attracted controversy due to concerns at marginal leakage. Also, as any new user will tell you learning to cut cavities without a local anaesthetic is not easy! Ricardo is a general dentist with a busy practice in Turlin. Dr Poli is an expert on all aspects of cavity preparation and restoration using oral lasers. In 2014 he published a very well received scientific paper on laser analgesia using the ErCrYSGG laser and also contributed a chapter to the recent Springer textbook on the restorative aspects of laser usage. Dr Poli is a member of the Genoa University teaching faculty and also an internationally acclaimed speaker.

Dr Eugenia Anagnostaki: Lasers in Endodontics

Eugenia has a busy general practice in Crete and she has integrated into her daily practice many different wavelengths of lasers. As part of her current doctoral research Dr Anagnostaki is investigating novel aspects of antibacterial photodynamic treatment (aPDT).

Eugenia is also a teaching professor on the Faculty of the University of Genoa and her areas of specific interest include dental bleaching, dental sensitivity and endodontics. As a highly experienced educator and practitioner learn the very latest thinking in endondontics to enable you to more easily and consistently deliver safe, reliable and comfortable clinical results within the context of the current scientific evidence base.

Dr Raj Singh Rao: Anti-bacterial photodynamic therapy in Oral Infection Management

Raj has a particular passion for periodontology and he maintains a busy specialist periodontal practice in Ilford here in the UK. As a specialist periodontist he has integrated lasers into his highly successful clinical practice and has considerable experience as to many aspects of oral infection management using many different types of oral lasers. Raj has also been highly actively involved as a member of the Genoa University Faculty and has developed a considerable expertise in photo activated antibacterial treatments using different combinations of photosensitisers and lasers. Given the challenge posed on a daily basis to the eradication of biofilm this is an opportunity to see what can be achieved.

Dr Robin Horton: Implants applications of oral lasers

Robin runs a highly successful general practice in Harpenden, UK. Dr Horton is one of the UK’s leading oral laser clinicians and Robin has a very extensive case book of wonderful treated laser implants cases. Dr Horton is a highly accomplished surgeon and is a mentor for Nobel Biocare as well as being an established speaker on oral laser applications. Robin’s passion for laser use will become obvious as he is an inspired and dedicated clinician with many happy patients!

Dr Charlotte Van Belle: Frenectomy Techniques in Babies and Children

Charlotte maintains a busy practice in Belgium which has become a leading local centre for referrals of babies and young children with feeding, breathing and speech problems related to tongue tie. Also Charlotte is in love with her lasers and takes great delight in sharing her clinical experience and she is now a laser educator and achieves some wonderful clinical results. In recognition of the importance of early intervention in cranio-facial development Charlottes practice has thrived with the integration of the latest oral laser technology.
